Geo rules
Geo rules let you serve a different banner and consent behavior to visitors from different regions. An EU visitor can get an opt-in GDPR or IAB banner while a California visitor gets a CCPA opt-out banner, all chosen automatically from the visitor's country.
The region is detected from the visitor's country at request time. No extra lookup is added.
Set geo rules
- Open Geo-targeting rules in the dashboard at my.optsens.com.
- Set the Default rule for all regions. Every visitor not matched by a regulation below uses this.
- Select the regulations you need. Use the quick presets or pick them one by one from the grouped list.
- Expand a regulation to set its banner type, consent mode, and options.
- Click Save changes.
The default rule always applies. Per-region regulations are layered on top.
Banner types
| Type | Consent model |
|---|---|
| Basic | Notice only |
| GDPR | Opt-in |
| IAB TCF | Opt-in with a TC string and partners list |
| CCPA | Opt-out, with a "Do Not Sell" link |
IAB TCF is shown as a banner type only when it is enabled for your domain and your plan includes it. When IAB is not available, a rule set to IAB falls back to the GDPR banner.
Consent modes
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Opt-in (strict) | Non-essential cookies blocked until consent |
| Opt-out | Allowed by default, the visitor can withdraw |
| Notice only | Informational, no blocking |
| Implied consent | Consent assumed from continued use |
Each regulation comes with the recommended banner type and consent mode for that law. CCPA defaults to opt-out, most opt-in laws default to the GDPR banner, and notice-only laws default to Basic. Both values stay adjustable per rule.
Per-region options
Expand a regulation to set:
- Auto cookie blocking, block non-essential cookies before consent.
- Respect GPC / DNT signals, honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. This requires the global privacy-signals setting to be on.
- For CCPA rules, Minor protection (under 16), Show "Do Not Sell" link, and an optional custom "Do Not Sell" page URL.
Quick presets
Presets select a group of regulations in one click: GDPR Regions (EU/EEA/UK/CH), Western Balkans, US States with Privacy Laws, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Middle East.
Plan gating
Per-region geo-targeting is gated by plan. Without it, you set one banner type and consent mode in the default rule that applies to all visitors. The number of regulations you can keep active is also capped by plan. Over the cap, only the first N stay active.
